Maasai Rianda Women Group.

Karen Blixen Camp through Karen Blixen Camp Trust created a platform for women within the community called the Maasai Rianda Women Group. The group comprises of 31 women who were drawn from the manyattas near the camp. The group comprises of vulnerable single mothers and widowed women who had no source of income but now are being empowered to bring sustainable and positive change to their lives through bead work.

For the Maasai Rianda Women Group, the high season brings forth new orders for the items they make at their workshop located within the Karen Blixen Camp premises. Some of the items are sold directly to guests visiting the camp and others as orders from Denmark.

Currently, the women have been receiving bracelet orders from Ree Park in Denmark. It is summer in Europe; hence creating an opportune time for travelers to explore The Mara or tour different places around the world. With this in mind, Ree Park plays a big role in ensuring the local women get extra income from the orders they place.

The money the women get from making these beautiful ornaments help them sustain their families and get to save for their table banking which they later re-invest in the business.
