Eco Friendly sustainable power supply

Karen Blixen Camp is fully powered by a solar panel system with back-up battery bank providing 24 hours electricity for all facilities. The solar panels collect solar radiation from the sun and convert this energy into electricity. The solar energy goes into the battery banks ensuring electricity is also available at night or on rainy days.

The benefit is obvious; there is no excessive use of diesel fueling noisy generators and our outlet of CO2 to the ozone layer is kept at a minimum. Guests can blow dry their hair using dryers supplied at the reception. Men can also shave. There are universal extension cables for charging all the gargets in the tents.

Save the elephants

We work closely with our partner the Mara Elephant Project (MEP), to protect the savanna elephants who are threatened by poaching for the illegal ivory trade, climate change, and an increasing number of human-elephant conflicts.

Mara Elephant Project were able to treat a wounded bull elephant in the southern Rift Valley for arrow wounds he received most likely during conflict with farmers. Dr Limo removed 1 arrow head and cleaned several infected wounds. The bull was found during a routine patrol of the collared elephants.
